Countries such as Estonia, Latvja, Belarus and Lithuania always had astonishing bands to offer. They were either just too "shy" to expose themselves to the outer world or the outer world was too prejudiced to give them a decent chance!!! MANATARK is an offspring of Draconic, a member of the THARAPITA cult (what a band damnit!!!) so you can undoubtedly expect quality music. This debut album of theirs, is in the vein of their one and only official demo entitled "Roosteitk" (if anyone has ever had the chance to listen to it) but with a far more professionally advanced approach! Despite the fact that they are still using a drum machine in their compositions, the whole result sounds like it is deriving from a professional source and not a demo, probably due to the change of studio! What one can listen here is not black metal in simplistic forms at all. It is pagan black metal with a lot of acoustic / ghostly guitar breaks that bring in mind the natural beauties of such lands, at least to me! The melodies and the use of synths take place in such a wise manner without overdoing it and categorising the band as another synth act. Some songs are also accompanied by epic clear vocals of a BORKNAGAR vein so all fans of the latter would appreciate this album. Very sophisticated pagan black metal art here, so be "Tark" enough ("wise" in Estonian!) and get hold of this album.
